Chartered November 2, 1988
The Alamo Metro Chorus has a wonderful history. Some of our performers are even beginning to make membership a family tradition, by recruiting their daughters and granddaughters! We've come a long way and our journey has many interesting highlights.
We are proud to be an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the largest nonprofit women’s musical organization in the world! With over 20,000 members around the globe, Sweet Adelines provides the educational means to promote and perfect the fine art of singing 4-part harmony in the barbershop style. Chartered in 1988, the Alamo Metro Chorus has staged numerous shows and performed for civic, cultural and charitable organizations in San Antonio, Texas, and the surrounding communities.
The chorus has always aspired to achieve musical excellence in its performances and competition efforts. AMC has earned the title of Regional Champions in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2009, and 2011. In 2004 we were the #1 Wildcard and competed at the 2005 International Competition, and in 2013 became the Regional Mid-Size Chorus Champions and qualified for the Harmony Classic competition in Baltimore in 2014. We again qualified as a Wildcard chorus in 2017 and therefore will be competing in the International Competition in St. Louis in October 2018!
The chorus has twice reached the Top Ten at International and one year were the 11th place mic-testers there. AMC loves to perform and can provide full chorus, mini-chorus or quartet entertainment packages to fit all occasions - conventions, luncheons, banquets, receptions, club meetings, and more. Singing telegrams are provided year round for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special happenings and for everyone’s favorite, Valentine’s Day! For bookings, call June Deiser at 210-514-0976.
Besides competition each spring, AMC has sung at the Memorial Day Ceremonies at Fort Sam Houston, sang the National Anthem at both Spurs and Stars basketball games, performed for the McDonald's Corporation Regional Conference and for a closing banquet of the Bernina Sewing Machine and Quilting Stores Convention at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Chorus is a colorful composite of women from all walks of life - educators, homemakers, business and professional women. Membership is open to women of all ages and musical skills. The heart and soul of being a Sweet Adeline is the love of music and four-part harmony, and of belonging to an organization that allows us to express that love in a very unique and wonderful way.
