Chorus History - Chartered Nov 2, 1988
Alamo Metro Chorus has a wonderful history. Some of our performers are even beginning to make membership a family tradition, by recruiting their daughters and granddaughters! We've come a long way and our journey has many interesting highlights.
The Alamo Metro Chorus is proud to be an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the largest nonprofit women’s musical organization in the world! With some 28,000 members from around the globe, Sweet Adelines provides the educational means to promote and perfect the fine art of singing 4-part harmony in the barbershop style. Chartered in 1988, the Alamo Metro Chorus has staged numerous shows and performed for civic, cultural and charitable organizations in San Antonio, Austin and surrounding communities. The chorus has always aspired to achieve musical excellence in its performances and competition efforts. AMC has earned the title of Regional Champions in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002; in 2004 they were the #1 Wildcard and again competed at the 2005 International Competition. In 2006 they were the Regional Mid-Size Chorus Champions. Again in 2007, 2009, and 2011, they were the Regional Champions. As such, they will compete in Denver next October at the International Competition. They have twice reached the Top Ten at International and one year were the 11th place mic-testers there. AMC loves to perform and can provide full chorus, mini-chorus or quartet entertainment packages to fit all occasions…conventions, luncheons, banquets, receptions and club meetings. Singing telegrams are provided year round for Birthdays, Anniversaries, and other special happenings and for everyone’s favorite, Valentine’s Day! For bookings, call June Deiser at 210-514-0976. Besides competition this spring, AMC has sung at the Memorial Day Ceremonies at Fort Sam, sang the National Anthem at a Silver Stars basketball game, performed for the closing banquet of the Bernina Sewing Machine and Quilting Stores Convention at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, are preparing to be the girls’ clinicians for the Youth Barbershop Festival at Roosevelt High School in September and perform on the evening show, will sing the National Anthem at a Rampage hockey game Dec. 6; and will present a two-hour show for the Fredericksburg Music Club Concert Series in March, 2012. The Chorus is a colorful composite of women from all walks of life…educators, housewives, secretaries, business and professional women. Membership is open to women of all ages and musical skills. The heart and soul of being a Sweet Adeline is the love of music and four-part harmony, and of belonging to an organization that allows us to express that love in a very unique and wonderful way.
